Collection – From Munch to Picasso

A few years ago, Italian jeweler Carlo Palmiero created a ring called Homage to Munch. This precious dedication to Edvard Munk was the most famous painting of the artist “Cry”. The canvas of 1893, the most famous of the versions of “Creek”, Palmiero reproduced in his signature technique – a pave of colored gemstones. The bright pattern with the thinnest modulation of colors, with the effect of degradation, was skillfully laid out on the curved surface of an oval ring with a hole in the center. And in terms of its expressiveness, it was not much less than the original, this program picture of expressionism.

So, “Cry” laid the foundation for a collection of original interpretations in miniature jewelry of famous works of art. Next, under the Palmiero Jewelery Design brand, rings appeared reproducing the pure color geometry and non-objectiveness of Peter Mondrian’s lines and a multi-colored abstract drawing of “points and lines” by Wassily Kandinsky.

And this year at the exhibition Baselworld 2013, Carlo Palmiero presented not only new canvases, but also jewelery watches, the dial and case of which also reproduces a very recognizable art handwriting in the pave technique. The Artworks “replenished” several major masters at once — Picasso, Gauguin and all the same Kandinsky.

Of the hundreds of paintings by Pablo Picasso, Palmero chose perhaps his most famous work, the 1937 painting “Guernica”. True, from the large-scale canvas measuring 3.5 meters in height by 7.8 meters in length, Palmiero reproduced only one expressive face of an antique mask, which in the picture floats into the room through a window and is a witness to the ongoing tragedy.

True, cubism, and drama, and the contrast of black and white authorship by Picasso here, in Palmiero Jewelery Design, is somewhat relaxed. So the face, the contours of which are formed by the wire of white gold, is distorted not by a grimace of horror, but rather by surprise, and besides it is made of pave of colorless diamonds, and therefore shines with inspiration. The background of the slightly sloping circumference of the ring is made of different shades of brown and cognac diamonds and is not as sharp as that of Picasso. Nevertheless, let us not forget that this ornament and it is intended for a woman, and not for the government of the Spanish Republic, on whose order the original “Guernica” was written.

But the “Dove” just came much easier and Picasso, and Carlo Palmiero. The famous symbol of peace, which the artist drew in 1949 as the emblem of the World Peace Supporters Congress, is executed in the same ring in the same technique: the outline of a bird made of white gold is filled with a pave of colorless diamonds against the blue sky of blue sapphires.

It was not the first time that Carlo Palmiero was drawn to the work of Paul Gauguin, last year he already presented a ring depicting the exotic vegetation of Tahiti from the portrait of a Woman with a Flower of 1891. But this year the plot was chosen more seriously, and it was reproduced on the surface of not one, but as many as four rings, only by connecting them together, you can see the little-known portrait of Gauguin “Lulu” of 1890. A girl sitting on a chair on each of the rings is completely unreadable, but looks only like a colorful pave of colored sapphires, brandy and colorless diamonds, so ideally you should buy all four rings and thus become the owner of your little secret, jewelry – artistic riddles.

But the works of Wassily Kandinsky are now decorated with the first in the history of the brand watches Palmiero Jewelery Design. Actually, Palmiero himself doesn’t consider this premiere, as such, for a watch, rather a jewelry piece, which also shows time (thanks to ETA quartz) and adorns the wrist. Many clients of the brand wanted to have a watch to match their favorite Palmiero jewelery, and now they can admire Kandinsky’s multi-color abstract compositions “Black Lines One” and “Black Lines Two” on the dial and case.

Both in the watches and in the new Art Collection jewelery, the balance of form and color combination are incredibly harmonious, and the jewelry work is impeccable, so, in fact, every piece of art here is a small piece of art. And if the real Picasso or Gauguin, you can hardly afford to afford, then their jewelry version from Palmiero Jewelery Design is quite.
