Diadem – a symbol of absolute femininity, embodied in the decoration

There is no unequivocal answer to the question of who can wear diadems and on what occasion. Much depends on etiquette and dress code, which provides for a particular case, so there are many opinions and there are no hard and clear rules that can force you to follow a strict principle. Honestly, only the fear of the strange looks of others stops many from buying a tiara at Sotheby’s auction or from going to the nearest grocery store in a similar decoration. No matter how we relate to this, certain rules in wearing tiaras and tiaras exist.

Who can wear a tiara

In the past, diadems were worn only by noble ladies and persons of royal blood. Of course, in this way they emphasized their status, but one should not forget that only representatives of the upper classes could afford such decoration. Also wearing a tiara or tiara was the privilege of married women. It was believed that young girls do not need an abundance of jewelry, and they did not have their own tiaras, most often they gave the tiara to the young bride as a wedding gift.

Of course, today the society has become more democratic, however, some rules and restrictions remain. Today, activities involving a tiara or tiara are most often attended by women of high society and representatives of royal houses, but tiaras are regularly exhibited at auctions and tenders. Oddly enough, it is these people who put their jewelry for sale.

The rule that the tiara should not be worn by unmarried princesses apparently also remained in the past. Today, many unmarried girls from the royal houses wear tiaras, and this does not surprise anyone. There is an unspoken rule that tiara is allowed to be worn from the age of nineteen, but each family has its own etiquette. It is very rare to see the prince’s girlfriend or bride in a tiara, but such cases have happened: Maxim was wearing a tiara on her engagement, Karina Axelsson, the longtime girlfriend of Prince Gustav Wittgenstein-Berleberg, also often seen in a tiara. Well, as for simple unmarried girls – how often do events occur in their lives that you need to wear tiara? But, if you reduce everything to a simple rule, then we can safely say the following: if you have a tiara, wear it boldly and be proud of this beautiful decoration.

What occasion should a tiara or tiara be worn

In the past century, this question would be answered like this: it must always be worn. King George V and Queen Marie even sat at the dinner table with full parade and tiaras. Dress coats for men and evening dresses for women – the same dress code for gala performances or a visit to the theater. Today, in addition to the democratization of society as a whole, it is worth noting that the funds for the lush events have also diminished. It is not often the case that you wear such an elegant jewel as a tiara. When asked when to wear a tiara, the simplest answer would be when it is provided for by the dress code, that is, everything depends on the preferences of the hosts of the celebration.

It is important to pay attention to what time of the day the event is scheduled. Tiaras and tiaras for the most part are decorations for evening exits, in some cases diadem is allowed in the afternoon, for example, it was at the wedding of the Swedish crown Princess Victoria, then the celebration began at half past four and continued until late evening. At ceremonial events that take place during the day, women, as a rule, wear elegant hats.
The nature of the event. The more solemn and important the event, the greater the likelihood that its dress code will assume a tiara or tiara. However, this does not prevent individuals (for example, Elton John) from organizing private balls and parties, to which guests must come in dress coats, evening dresses and tiaras.

Men in coats, women in evening wear. In special cases, this phrase is indicated in the invitation as the definition of the dress code of the solemn event. Such a dress code implies a dress coat or full-dress military uniform for men and an evening dress in combination with a tiara for women (if one is available). But evening dresses are not always accompanied by tiaras. For example, at the wedding of Princess Natalie, the gentlemen were in dress coats and with orders, but the ladies were without jewelry.

Tuxedo and evening dresses. Events in which men should be in tuxedos do not imply the presence of a tiara in the evening dress of the ladies. But in this case there are exceptions: at the festivities on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Danish Queen Margrethe, it was possible to meet men in tuxedos and women in tiaras. The English Queen Elizabeth II sometimes wears a tiara on foreign official receptions, while the dress code of such an event involves a tuxedo for men, and not a solemn dress coat with a full parade.

The protocol of royal events is always worked out in detail, however, royal persons are not insured against small embarrassments. In 2001, while on an official visit to the United Kingdom, Queen Rania put on a tiara at the reception
